Yesterday, 1 April, CIIMAR welcomed a visit from the new president of the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-N), Álvaro Santos, accompanied by the vice-president, Gabriela Leite, and the chief of staff to the presidency, Nuno Almeida.
The visit, organised at the invitation of CIIMAR’s board, was primarily aimed at presenting the institution’s strategic priorities, its mission and its vision for the future, at a time of institutional renewal within the CCDR-N. During the meeting, the importance of the field of Marine Resources and Economy for the sustainable development of the Northern region was highlighted, as well as CIIMAR’s central role in promoting scientific research of excellence, knowledge and technology transfer, advanced training, support for public policy-making and ocean literacy initiatives.
The programme also included a visit to various laboratories and facilities at the Aquatic Organisms Animal Facility (BOGA), where the delegation had the opportunity to engage directly with researchers and learn about some of the ongoing scientific projects.
