20 CIIMAR researchers have been recognised in the 2026 edition of the «World’s Best Scientists» ranking by Research.com, across six scientific fields — four more than in the previous year.
The new edition of the prestigious international ranking “World’s Best Scientists” once again places CIIMAR in the spotlight, with twenty names featuring in the selection of the most influential scientists worldwide. CIIMAR thus broadens its international reach, adding four new names compared to the 2025 edition, in which 16 researchers were recognised. This list, compiled annually by Research.com, identifies the scientists with the greatest global influence, based on the frequency and relevance of citations of their publications.

The inclusion of new researchers and the diversification of the fields represented reflect the thematic breadth that characterises the work carried out at CIIMAR. This result is also part of the strong performance of the University of Porto, which maintains a prominent position on the national scene, accounting for a significant share of the Portuguese scientists listed in this international distinction.
For CIIMAR, the recognition of more researchers in 2026 is a sign of a growing scientific community, producing high-impact knowledge and increasingly engaged with the major environmental and Ocean science issues shaping the global agenda.
