Fish stress responses revealed through their genes
The complexity of these challenges requires the development of new approaches, processes, and technologies in order to ensure an appropriate response that meets the expectations of an increasingly demanding public in terms of quality and sustainability. Fish responses to stress are demonstrated through the regulation of genes and proteins expressed in their tissues.
By understanding the function and interconnection between genes that are activated or suppressed during periods of stress, we can begin to design systems for detecting ‘stress molecules’ that help prevent more serious consequences in production and animal welfare. The answer may therefore lie just beneath the surface.
