It gathers and systematizes existing information to assist stakeholders involved in spill preparedness and response, and builds return of experience datasheets for the chemicals involved. It will facilitate the incorporation of lessons from past incidents on the decision process to improve preparedness.

Ninety percent of the cargo was salvaged 2,5-3,5 years after the accident under pressure of scientists, politicians and media. 20 tonnes of tetraalkyl lead remained lost. Ecological monitoring carried out afterwards showed minor environmental effects.
