A competition is open for the attribution of 1 Research Grant in the framework of GENIALG – GENetic diversity exploitation for Innovative macro-ALGal biorefinery, EC Grant agreement no: 727892, within the R&D Institution CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research), supported by the European Union Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2014-2020), according to the following conditions:

1. Scientific area: Biological sciences/marine sciences
2. Admission requirements:

To be considered for the position and admitted to the position the candidates must:

• Have a Master in Ecology, Economics, Environmental Development and/or Social Sciences (environmental or ecologic economics).
• Must be enrolled in a doctoral programme aiming at consolidating their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the achievement of the respective academic degree, or non-academic degree course integrated in an educational project of a developed higher education institution in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units, at the time of application.

Have demonstrated experience in:

• Seaweed Aquaculture assessment in Europe (environmental impacts assessments, social impacts, resilience).
• Designing questionnaires and on data analysis from questionnaires.
• Developing monetary or non-monetary valuation of ecosystem services (e.g., choice modelling, travel cost methods, deliberatory valuation, multicriteria analysis, biophysical valuation approaches).
• Good knowledge of English.
• Residence permit if applicable.

Conditions of preference:

• Experience in participating in research projects related to ecosystem services in the marine environment, especially in seaweeds.
• Experience in working with stakeholders (seaweed industry, coastal management, fishing industry).
• Experience in writing reports and scientific publications.
• Knowledge of Portuguese will be desirable.

3. Work plan:

The candidate will be responsible for supporting the work of WP 6 – “Socio-environmental benefits of seaweed farming”, especially implementing Task 6.3: “Quantify and modelize the benefits of seaweed cultivation, using the ecosystem services approach”, namely performing the economic valuation of ecosystem services, and combining monetary and non-monetary values in a deliberative valuation. The candidate will also be supporting the analysis of the results and writing reports, as well as writing the scientific papers.

Whenever the degree of the candidate selected for the position is from a foreign institution it needs to be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution accordingly to the Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August until the signature of the contract. 5. Work place:

The work will be carried out at CIIMAR with headquarters located in Terminal de Cruzeiros do Porto de Leixões, Av. General Norton de Matos, s/n, Matosinhos (Portugal), under the scientific supervision of Prof. Isabel Sousa-Pinto.

6. Duration of the grant:

Duration of nine (9) months, starting as soon as possible (October 2020), under the regime of exclusive dedication and eventually renewable according to the end of the project and legal terms.

7. Monthly maintenance stipend:

The monthly maintenance allowance is 1064 € (one thousand and sixty four Euros), in agreement with the monthly maintenance stipend table of the grants directly attributed by FCT, I.P. within the country: https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en.

8. Selection method:

Ranking of the candidates will be performed by CV evaluation (CE), according to the following criteria:

• Academic qualification: 50%;
• Experience in the field: 50%.

If necessary an interview will be done to the three top candidates, after which a final ranking will be performed based on:

• CV evaluation: 50%;
• Interview: 50%.

The jury reserves the right to not assign the research contract if none of the candidates meets all requirements and match the desired profile.

10. Form of Advertising/notification of results

The final results of the evaluation will be published through a list sorting the candidates according to their attributed mark, on the CIIMAR website (https://www2.ciimar.up.pt/jobs.php) and by e-mail. In case of disagreement, the candidates have a 10-working day term in which to contest the decision, if he/she so wishes, as provided for in the ‘Código do Procedimento Administrativo’ in a preliminary hearing setting. The jury reserves the right to not assign the grant depending on the quality of the applications.
