Luísa Valente chairs the International Society of Aquaculture Nutrition

This appointment represents a significant milestone for aquaculture science at an international level and an important recognition for Portugal and CIIMAR.

Luísa Valente, researcher and leader of the Biology, Aquaculture and Fish Quality research line and member of the CIIMAR board, has been elected as the first President of the International Society of Aquaculture Nutrition (ISAN). This appointment represents a significant milestone for aquaculture science at an international level and an important recognition for Portugal and CIIMAR.

ISAN, recently established as a non-profit scientific organisation based in Texas (USA), has a mission to strengthen global collaboration and promote knowledge sharing in the field of aquaculture nutrition, with a particular focus on fish and crustacean nutrition.

This new scientific society aims to advance the science of nutrition in aquaculture, from fundamental and applied research, through feed formulation and ingredient innovation, to nutritional physiology and the management of feeding disorders in aquatic organisms.

Through training, knowledge dissemination and collaborative initiatives, ISAN aims to connect researchers, industry and institutions around the world, promoting more sustainable aquaculture based on scientific knowledge.

The election of Luísa Valente to this international leadership position reinforces the prominent role the researcher, CIIMAR and the Portuguese research play in the global aquaculture landscape, contributing to sustainable development and scientific innovation in this sector, which is essential for global food security.
