Ciência na maré baixa is part of BioMARathon project, a citizen science initiative that aimes to record and share photographic observations of marine biodiversity through the MINKA platform. From May to October, we are organizing guided visits to rocky beaches in Northern Portugal.
In October, we will return to the beaches for new field work, with two main components:
Observation and photographic recording of visible biodiversity using the MINKA app;
Collection of water samples for environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis, a technique that allows us to detect species often invisible to the naked eye.
By combining these two approaches, we aim to contribute to a more complete picture of marine biodiversity along our coast — bringing together what is seen with what is unseen.
