Location: CMIA Vila do Conde (Av. Marquês Sá da Bandeira, 320 | 4480-916 Vila do Conde | Portugal)

The exhibition “Shall We Ask Nature?” is a collaboration between the CMIA of Vila do Conde, the CMIA of Matosinhos, and CIIMAR. It aims to showcase the main benefits of implementing various Nature-Based Solutions (NbS).

Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) are actions inspired, supported, or copied from nature, which aim to solve a variety of environmental, social, and economic challenges in a sustainable manner. NbS can be implemented in various aquatic environments (marine and freshwater) and at the territorial level (urban and rural), utilizing or improving existing conditions, or even exploring new solutions to address these challenges. NbS also offer numerous environmental, economic, and social benefits, being highly versatile and efficient, and adaptable to various scenarios.

The main objectives of NbS involve improving sustainable urbanization, restoring degraded ecosystems, and managing risks, mitigating and increasing resilience and adaptation to climate change. Throughout the exhibition, examples of NBS already implemented in society are given, and NBS research projects taking place at CIIMAR are also mentioned, which seek, together with other entities, to improve, develop and implement NBS appropriate to the challenges.
