The InsectERA Mobilizing Agenda, co-funded under the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan, was launched on 14 February 2023, at the National Centre for Exhibitions and Agricultural Markets, in Santarém.

Through the Laboratory of Nutrition, growth and quality of fish led by Professor Luísa Valente, CIIMAR is a partner in this consortium along with more than 40 companies, entities of the scientific and technological system, associations and official institutions. InsectERA is committed to investing about 43 million euros in the creation of an innovative sector based on circular economy.

The consortium, led by Daniel Murta, estimates the creation of more than 140 new jobs, and four new bioindustrial units, two R&D centres and a logistics centre will be implemented by 2025.
The InsectERA Agenda aims to invest to address an exponentially growing market and explore innovative technological solutions in the use of insects as raw materials.
The use of insects is presented as a strategic solution to increase the sustainability of
sustainability and nutritional alternatives.
