OCEANUS SEMINAR SERIES | 21 JUN 2023 | LUCA RIVOIRA E MARIA CONCETTA BRUZZONITI | 11:30
Title: Development of innovative and multiparametric analytical protocols for the evaluation of environmental chemical quality of natural water matrices
Closed natural water matrices are subjected to anthropic pressure, due to discharges of persistent organic pollutants deriving from intensive industrial activities, as well as of microplastics with possible transfers among water, sediment and biota. Our research group is leader in the development of analytical, robust and sensitive protocols for the determination of environmental concern target compounds (PAHs,PCBs,…) and of microplastics in aqueous compartments such as seas and oceans.
In this regard, the development and the application of a QuEChERS-GC/MS protocol for the study of the contamination of PAHs and PCBs in the neritic environment (sea, sediment and biota) of the Mediterranean Sea is reported, together with a new analytical Pyr-GC/MS protocol for the determination of eleven types of microplastics.
Name: Luca Rivoira and Maria Concetta Bruzzoniti (Department of Chemistry, University of Torino, Italy)
The research activity of Professor Bruzzoniti and Dr. Rivoira is mainly focused on studies for the development of new methodologies dedicated to the determination of micro-pollutants, both inorganic and organic, as well as microplastics, in environmental matrices.
In addition, other topic expertise is the assessment of chemical risk of detected pollutants (with particular reference to exposure assessment and risk characterization).
The seminar will take place at CIIMAR headquarters (Boca da Baleia Auditorium).
