Title: The need of geoethics for society
Geoethics has had a great development in the last ten years. At an initial stage, studies on geoethics were characterized by defining topics to be addressed and focused on the issues of professional ethics in the geosciences (role and responsibility of geoscientists). In a new stage, geoethics is confronting itself with extra-professional questions, in particular with global issues affecting the geoscience-society interface (causes and socio-cultural implications of the ecological crisis, geoscientific literacy, ethical significance of geodiversity, geotourism and geoparks for the life of local communities, redefinition of the human-nature nexus, relations between geosciences, humanities and social sciences). In this perspective, geoethics is proposing itself as the global ethics of a globalized world, based on the geoscientific knowledge of the territory.
