“Café com Ciência” seminar series – October

Café com Ciência with Óscar Babé Gómez| Online

CIIMAR Scientific Dive Centre

The Scientific Dive Centre (SDC) at CIIMAR supports marine research through scientific diving. It provides all necessary equipment and is open to the CIIMAR community, though dives are usually conducted by a dedicated team of certified, highly experienced divers. Activities vary with ongoing projects, from routine monitoring (such as the CIIMAR Watch program) to specialized underwater research. Tasks include, among other activities, visual censuses of marine fauna and flora, sample collection for genetic and experimental studies, underwater experiments, deployment of sensors for physicochemical data, and documentation through photography and video. The SDC also provides services to external organizations, including subtidal mapping and environmental studies.

Óscar Babé Gómez

Óscar Babé Gómez is a marine scientist and certified scientific diver working at CIIMAR, Portugal. He supports the Scientific Diving Center and the CIIMAR Watch monitoring project. His work focuses on coordinating and conducting marine monitoring and subtidal research along the northern coast of Portugal, with a strong interest in underwater research and conservation.
