CIIMAR is hosting the international expedition Traversing European Coastlines (TREC), an initiative of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) to explore European coastal ecosystems, until the 10th of November, 2023.
The TREC expedition collaborates with 150 research teams from more than 70 institutions in 29 countries and includes 46 stops along the way to sample more than 120 points in the land-sea transition zone.
TREC’s stop at CIIMAR includes a series of free activities for schools and the general public from the 26th to the 30th October, with the aim of involving the public and schools in this scientific voyage. All the information on the programme can be found here.
The TREC expedition stop at CIIMAR has as partners the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR), the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), the Tara Ocean Foundation, the European Marine Biological Resources Centre (EMBRC), Administração dos Portos do Douro, Leixões e Viana do Castelo, SA (APDL), the Environmental Monitoring and Interpretation Centres (CMIA) of Matosinhos and Vila do Conde, the MAELSTROM H2020 project, the Natural History and Science Museum of the University of Porto (MHNC-UP), Mercado do Bolhão, NorteShopping and Café Ceuta.
