With the growth of the world’s population, the demand for safe and nutritious food is also increasing. The balanced and responsible management of wild stocks is no longer sufficient to meet this growing need, making the development of fish farming in aquaculture imperative. However, as in any other animal production sector, large-scale fish farming raises serious environmental, food safety, and animal welfare concerns, to which the scientific community is striving to respond.
Various strategies have been developed, optimized, and implemented in production units to ensure healthy growth and ideal conditions for fish welfare throughout the production cycle. From vaccination and functional diets to environmental enrichment, these strategies together lead to a final product that is safe, nutritious, and, above all, sustainable.
