The exhibition “Portuguese Blue Biobank: The Guardian of Marine Treasures” (Biobanco Azul Português: o guardião de tesouros marinhos) will be open to the public from March 25th to September 26th at CMIA Vila do Conde.
In this exhibition, visitors will “dive” into different collections of marine biological diversity and explore their precious treasures. Bacteria, sponges, corals, algae, and fish are some of the organisms that scientists preserve and study for a wide range of purposes.
Biobanks play a crucial role in the country’s scientific and biotechnological development. Therefore, showcasing their full potential and applications in our daily lives is of great importance.
The Portuguese Blue Biobank is a project coordinated by CIIMAR that aims to create a digital network of national marine biobanks in order to facilitate sustainable and regulated access to marine biodiversity for scientific and industrial users, promoting its conservation and compliance with the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) regulations derived from the Nagoya Protocol.
