Vítor Vasconcelos, director of CIIMAR-UP participated in a scientific expedition to the Chichonal volcano in Mexico between April 18 and 28, 2022, to sample cyanobacteria and microalgae from these environments.
The researcher focused his sampling on cyanobacteria and microalgae both in the lake and in various ecosystems of this volcanic zone with the aim of isolating microorganisms of biotechnological interest as well as conducting metagenomic studies that allow us to know the biodiversity and functioning of these communities. The isolated microorganisms will be deposited in CIIMAR's LEGE-CC culture collection.
