On April 16th, CIIMAR celebrated the signing of the contract for the redevelopment of part of the former vaccination centre in Matosinhos, which will be transformed into a new multipurpose space dedicated to advanced training, ocean literacy, and administrative services. Construction began on April 30th and is expected to take six months.
The facility, with over 700 square metres, will serve as an important complement to the current headquarters located at the Porto Cruise Terminal. The project includes the creation of an auditorium with a capacity of up to 100 seats, which can be divided into two rooms to host events of various sizes, a support laboratory for environmental education activities, and offices for administrative staff and researchers.
This expansion will ease the use of the main building, creating better working conditions for the entire CIIMAR community. The new space has also been designed to ensure full accessibility, promoting inclusion and equity in access to the facilities.
