Café com Ciência with Marina Dolbeth | Online
Seagrasses play a crucial role in the health of our oceans. This “silent legacy” refers to their ability to sustain and rehabilitate complex marine ecosystems. By restoring these underwater meadows, we are investing in nurseries for countless marine species, improving water quality through natural filtration and increasing carbon sequestration capacity, combating climate change. The talk will explore restoration techniques, the ecological and economic benefits, and the importance of recognizing and protecting these valuable habitats for a resilient marine future.
Marina Dolbeth is a PhD researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Marine Environmental Research (CIIMAR) at the University of Porto, where she investigates the role of biodiversity in the proper functioning of the ocean. She is currently studying the conservation and restoration of marine habitats as Nature’s solutions to mitigate the impacts of human activities and the climate. She is also dedicated to promoting Ocean Literacy and is a member of the UNESCO “Ocean Expert” Chair team for Ocean Education.
