Did you know that there are mussels that don’t live in the sea? This is the theme of the exhibition “Mexilhões de água doce” (Freshwater Mussels), created by the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research of the University of Porto (CIIMAR) in collaboration with Sea Life. The exhibition aims to raise awareness about these still little-known species, which nevertheless play an important role in freshwater ecosystems.
The exhibition introduces visitors to freshwater mussels, their biology, ecological importance, unique life cycle, and the factors that threaten them.
