CMIA Matosinhos | Monday to Friday 9h30-12h30 and 14h00-17h30
This exhibition is a unique opportunity to get an up-close look at the Portuguese Blue Biobank, a national network of marine biological collections.
Led by CIIMAR – the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research of the University of Porto – and developed under the Blue Bioeconomy Pact, a consortium funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), this project’s mission is to preserve and promote the value of Portugal’s marine biological heritage.
The Portuguese Blue Biobank plays a key role in conserving ocean biodiversity and supporting scientific research.
The marine biodiversity housed in Portuguese collections represents the largest preserved blue biological heritage at the national level, and constitutes an invaluable treasure from a scientific, educational, and economic perspective.
By enabling the discovery of new species, medicines, and countless other uses for marine biological resources, the Portuguese Blue Biobank aims to become the national collection of the future — helping to boost Portugal’s role in the development of the blue bioeconomy and the conservation of the oceans and the species that inhabit them.
Come and discover this unique heritage and understand the importance of preserving our marine biodiversity!
