CIIMAR has opened applications for the second edition of the BYT-PhD programme, a competitive doctoral initiative that offers PhD candidates the opportunity to carry out advanced research across the centre’s scientific areas.
Applications are open until 16 January 2026, and proposals must be submitted via this link. The full call notice can be consulted here.
Candidates may choose between two application routes:
• Existing proposal – Select one of the PhD projects already available on the CIIMAR website and contact the respective supervisors directly.
• New proposal – Develop an original research project together with a supervisory research group.
The programme allows candidates to conduct their doctoral research in collaboration with one of the nine PhD programmes at the University of Porto, including Marine Biotechnology and Aquaculture, Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, Animal Science, Aquatic Sciences, Biology, Environmental Science and Technology, Marine Science, Technology and Management, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Civil Engineering.
Selected students will have access to CIIMAR’s advanced research infrastructures and to teams with consolidated expertise in marine biotechnology, global change and ecosystem services, conservation, aquaculture and nutrition. They will also participate in activities focused on communication, entrepreneurship and professional development.
