Café com Ciência with Diogo F. Ferreira | Online
Often misunderstood and shrouded in myths, bats are, in fact, key players in nature. But what do we really know about these unique flying mammals? As part of International Bat Awareness Day, this “Café com Ciência” session invites you to dive into this world and explore the fascinating way of life of these animals. Through an informal conversation, the CMIA of Vila do Conde and CIIMAR aim to debunk misconceptions and reveal why bat conservation is a matter of environmental balance.
My name is Diogo, though my friends call me “the bat guy.” I’m a postdoctoral researcher at CIBIO, a research centre affiliated with the University of Porto. My work focuses on studying and conserving these animals and the natural environments they inhabit. Thanks to them, I’ve had the opportunity to work in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula. Currently, I study bats in the dunes and mountains of some of the world’s most inhospitable deserts. Ready to dive into the world of bats?
