RESEARCH GROUPS:

The modernisation and restructuring of scientific research units, including their digital transformation, aims to acquire major scientific equipment, sets of scientific instruments, scientific archives and data, other knowledge-based resources, computing and programming systems, and communication networks that promote open digital access and/or other instrumental infrastructure to foster excellence in research and innovation activities.

Project UID/PRR/4423/2025, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), aims to support the acquisition, upgrading and modernisation of CIIMAR’s major scientific equipment and research infrastructure, in line with its strategic plan for the period 2025–2029.

CIIMAR’s infrastructure comprises a set of highly specialised scientific and technological platforms, supported by dedicated technical teams, which underpin the research and innovation activities carried out by the institution, promoting scientific excellence, technological capacity-building and knowledge transfer.

The funding will enable CIIMAR to strengthen its scientific and technological capacity through the acquisition and renewal of strategic equipment, the modernisation of laboratories and research infrastructure, as well as its digital transformation. It is hoped that this will increase the institution’s competitiveness and its ability to respond to emerging scientific and societal challenges, whilst strengthening its national and international standing in the fields of the sea, the environment and blue biotechnology.
