CMIAs of Matosinhos and Vila do Conde with new scientific coordination

The Environmental Monitoring and Interpretation Centres (CMIA) of Matosinhos and Vila do Conde now have new scientific and technical coordinations, led by CIIMAR researchers.

In Matosinhos, scientific coordination is now assumed by Vânia Freitas, a CIIMAR researcher with broad experience in the ecology of coastal and estuarine ecosystems. The researcher steps into the role after Sandra Ramos, whose work over the past years stood out for her energy, dedication, and the diversity of initiatives promoted at the centre.

At the CMIA Vila do Conde, the new coordinator is Elsa Froufe, a CIIMAR researcher with extensive expertise on the impacts of climate change on aquatic biodiversity. The researcher takes over from Cristina Calheiros, whose technical and scientific contributions were key to the centre’s growth and recognition.

Both centres are municipal facilities under the scientific coordination of CIIMAR, with the mission of promoting environmental education and developing monitoring initiatives that bring science closer to the community.
