Ahmed Ali is a PhD researcher in the Coastal Biodiversity Group at CIIMAR – Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research, University of Porto, supported by an FCT doctoral fellowship. His research focuses on monitoring coastal macroalgae under climate change using satellite remote sensing, machine learning, and geospatial technologies. His current work develops scalable methodologies by integrating Sentinel-2 imagery, environmental variables, and professional and citizen-science biodiversity observations to support marine biodiversity assessment and ecosystem conservation.
Before joining CIIMAR, Ahmed was a researcher at CENTEC, Instituto Superior Técnico, Portugal, and an Assistant Manager and researcher at SUPARCO (Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission). His research interests include marine and coastal remote sensing, geospatial analysis, Earth observation, machine learning, and environmental monitoring. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications and actively presents his research at international scientific conferences.
