The protocol between CIIMAR and IPMA was renewed with an addendum to promote greater collaboration and new laboratories.
Today, the signing of an addendum to the protocol between CIIMAR and IPMA took place, which will allow for greater cooperation, new workspaces, and enhanced scientific support for IPMA services in the areas of animal and plant food safety, monitoring the environmental health of marine waters, and species identification.
After adaptation works during the first half of 2025 at the IPMA facility in Matosinhos, CIIMAR will install new equipment and staff to meet the needs of the community and strengthen IPMA services.
In this context, the IPMA facility in Matosinhos will feature renovated laboratories in microbiology, chemistry, analytical chemistry, genomics, and sample preparation, equipped with CIIMAR equipment and researchers. This addendum to the protocol also foresees increased collaboration in technical and scientific studies, participation in oceanographic research campaigns, sample collection and analysis, and laboratory and scientific method accreditation.
Ten years after the first protocol between CIIMAR and IPMA, the new addendum represents a “renewal of vows”, in the words of Vítor Vasconcelos, president of CIIMAR’s board, who aims to bring “researchers and students to help with IPMA’s mission.” The signing event was also attended by IPMA president José Guerreiro and Matosinhos mayor Luísa Salgueiro.
