CIIMAR researcher elected as President of the Northern Delegation of the Order of Biologists

Agostinho Antunes has been elected President of the Board of Directors of the Northern Regional Delegation of the Order of Biologists for the next four years.

CIIMAR researcher Agostinho Antunes was elected President of the Board of Directors of the Northern Regional Delegation of the Order of Biologists for the next four years. The taking over ceremony took place on April 23 at the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge in Lisbon.

The CIIMAR researcher António Paulo Carvalho is also a member of the social organs of this board. In the Action Program presented, the new board proposes to promote training and workshops designed to train students and professionals in Biology in specific areas relevant to the exercise of their profession.

It is now up to Agostinho Antunes to energize and implement the action program, facing the challenges of a very broad profession that encompasses areas such as the Environment, Health, Biotechnology, Education and Research.

Another objective of this board is to strengthen the profession’s recognition with national and European bodies, particularly through the accreditation of postgraduate training.

“I want to give greater visibility to the profession of Biologist, especially in the northern region and in the academic environment of the University of Porto” stresses Agostinho Antunes.

About the Order of Biologists

The Order of Biologists is a public professional association that regulates and promotes the profession of biologist in Portugal. It has four regional offices: North, South, Azores and Madeira.
