Culture Collection of Actinomycetes at BCCO: Research Directions and Opportunities

Actinomycetes are known primarily for their biosynthetic potential for natural compounds, biocontrol, and an efficient enzymatic system that facilitates the breakdown and cycling of nutrients in the environment. The aim of this lecture is to introduce the BCCO Culture Collection of Actinomycetes and the directions of our research.

Alica Chronakova (Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences)

Alica works at the Institute of Soil Biology and Biogeochemistry as head of the Laboratory of Environmental Microbiology. Her research interest is biology, ecology, and diversity of soil actinomycetes, adaptation mechanisms and response to environmental signals, soil-plant-microbe interactions, antimicrobial resistance, genomics, gene evolution, biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, siderophores, quorum sensing, extracellular enzyme machinery (degradative enzymes), anaerobiosis. Curator of the Culture Collection of Actinomycetes at Biology Centre Collection of Organisms (BCCO).
