CIIMAR is undergoing its largest expansion of membership since the organisation was founded.
CIIMAR has become a member of the Douro and Leixões Port Community, in the largest expansion of membership since the organisation was founded in 1996.
The official ceremony took place today at the Porto Cruise Terminal, bringing together eight new member institutions representing different sectors, further strengthening the diversity and collaborative capacity of the Port Community. Alongside CIIMAR, the new members include ALADI, Casa da Arquitetura, CEiiA – Centre of Engineering and Product Development, the School of Art and Design (ESAD), Rolar Matosinhos, the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra, and UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto.
This expansion aims to foster closer collaboration between the port sector and organisations working in science, innovation, culture, education and economic development, creating opportunities for dialogue and reflection on the region’s challenges and future prospects.
As a leading research institution in marine and environmental sciences, CIIMAR further strengthens its connection with the key stakeholders of the region’s maritime and port ecosystem through this membership. Participation in the Port Community will enhance collaboration with public and private organisations, contributing scientific knowledge to support innovation, environmental sustainability and the development of the blue economy.
CIIMAR’s integration into this network reinforces the institution’s commitment to placing science at the service of society by contributing knowledge-based solutions that promote the sustainable management of the ocean and coastal areas, in close collaboration with the different stakeholders of the maritime sector.
