Accidents, disasters and critical incidents happen unexpectedly, suddenly and often in overwhelming circumstances. People involved in a critical incident may not always present visible physical injuries, but they may experience emotional distress or psychological difficulties.
Strong emotional reactions are common among people involved in a critical incident and may include cognitive or emotional disorganization, despair, anger and apathy. Understanding that these emotional responses are appropriate reactions to the “abnormality” of the situation can help individuals effectively manage their feelings, thoughts and behaviors during the recovery process.
In this context, psychosocial intervention plays a facilitating role in recovery, with Psychological First Aid serving as an important tool for anyone who may, in their day-to-day life, find themselves in a position where they need to provide support to people experiencing shock or an emotional crisis.
This course will take place in person, at CIIMAR, on April 23 & 3, from 9am to 1pm. It will be held in portuguese.
Registrations are open until April 21st, through this link.
