I’m a marine ecologist, with a BSc in Biology and an MSc in Marine Ecology from the University of Lisbon. My work focuses on how faunal population dynamics relates to marine ecosystem processes, mainly in coastal marine environments, assessing major traits of keen and critical marine habitats.
As a junior researcher, my career began largely with studies on tropical coastal habitats in Africa, namely mangrove forests, seagrass meadows and rocky shores biodiversity, working with local and international restoration/conservation projects on these critical habitats.
I now apply my expertise to temperate ecosystems, particularly kelp forests. Currently, I’m a PhD student at the Benthic Ecology Laboratory (Ciimar) and MARE-IPLeiria, studying the importance of Iberian kelp forests as biogenic habitats, food source and nursery grounds, relying extensively on scientific diving methodologies to explore these habitats.
