The CyaSafe Project is dedicated to ensuring the safety of cyanobacteria-based supplements, which are gaining popularity as sustainable nutrition solutions in the face of global challenges like population growth and climate change. Although cyanobacteria are rich in nutrients, they can also produce compounds with potential health risks, and current safety evaluations are not sufficient to fully understand their impact. To address this, CyaSafe will study how these metabolites are absorbed and transformed during human digestion, carry out toxicological testing, and establish new safety benchmarks. The project will also provide updated technical recommendations to strengthen regulatory frameworks and promote informed decision-making. Beyond its scientific goals, CyaSafe emphasizes knowledge transfer and public awareness, helping communities better understand both the risks and benefits of these supplements.
