Intertidal Mission: Discovering 40 Species
On this field trip, participants will have the opportunity to get a close-up look at the unique ecosystem of rocky beaches in the intertidal zone. The activity begins with an introductory talk on site about the characteristics and importance of this habitat. This will be followed by an observation of the typical zoning of this area, identifying how different organisms are distributed according to the tides.
The main challenge will be to discover at least 40 species typical of this ecosystem.
40 years: what our dunes tell us
Participants will explore the dune areas of several beaches in the municipality of Matosinhos, a fragile ecosystem that is essential for coastal protection. The activity begins with an introductory talk on site about how the dunes were formed.
During the walk, the characteristic flora and fauna of this habitat will be introduced, including species adapted to the extreme conditions of wind, salinity and soil mobility. Participants will have the opportunity to observe and record plant and animal species, understanding the importance of dune conservation for environmental balance, how the landscape has changed over time, and to envisage a future for our dunes from a conservation perspective.
Blue Flag Relay: from litter to solution
A fun, educational game that invites participants to trace the journey of marine litter, facing various challenges and finding the best solutions to the problem. At the end of the activities, the best and most original solutions devised by the participants to tackle the problem of marine litter will be revealed.
