CIIMAR Open Day 2026

The event will be held in parallel with the “Dia do Porto de Leixões”.

On September 20, CIIMAR will once again open its doors to the community.

The event will take place from 10h00 to 19h at the Porto Cruise Terminal, and will feature a programme tailored for all ages, with a range of science outreach activities and opportunities to interact with CIIMAR researchers.

The programme will include the usual Science Exhibition, inviting visitors to explore multiple CIIMAR research fields. They will be able to glimpse intertidal life, learn more about marine monitoring (ranging from cetaceans to microplastics), and an inside look at the work conducted in aquaculture. Visitors will also learn about freshwater ecosystems and the deep sea, explore different environmental decontamination methods, and uncover the potential of marine-derived pharmaceuticals. CIIMAR’s Blue Biobank will also be on display, offering a closer look at key research organisms, such as cyanobacteria, microalgae, bacteria, sponges and corals.

Joining the lineup of activities are a cyanotype workshop, a debate session with the researchers, and an exhibition of the 2026 CIIMAR Scientific Photography Contest.

Admission is free and the detailed programme will be announced shortly.
