Developmental disorders in childhood and adolescence: understanding more to manage better

Module Description

We aim to facilitate development and promote useful learning, but we don’t always know how to do so in ways that suit the characteristics of each child and adolescent.

Module Objectives
  • Understand the main characteristics of children and adolescents with ASD and ADHD.
  • Reflect on possible strategies for behavior management.
Instructor

Maria João Trigueiro – Maria João Trigueiro is an occupational therapist and lecturer with expertise in pediatrics, ADHD, neurology, and well-being. She is a Full Professor at the Health School (ESS-P.Porto) and has contributed to numerous national and international research projects on disability and social exclusion.

As a professor, she teaches at both undergraduate and master’s levels at ESS-P.Porto and the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences – University of Porto (FPCEUP). She is also a staff member of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Lab (www.labrp.com) and the Porto Interactive Neuroscience Group (www.portointeractivecenter.org/ping).

Her research interests include improving the well-being of individuals with neurological, musculoskeletal, and developmental dysfunctions (children and adults) by supporting lifestyle redesign and using interactive and virtual reality technologies to treat various pathologies in children and adults.
