RESEARCH GROUPS:

The Hub Azul Leixões (HAL) is one of the hubs in the Hub Azul Portugal network. Located in the port area, the HAL will contribute to the development of technologies for a more sustainable blue economy, in the context of the climate and digital transitions. At CIIMAR, this initiative will enable the implementation of the Northern Blue Biobank. This is a facility dedicated to the collection, preservation and utilisation of marine biological resources, supported by a Scientific Diving Centre, which strengthens bioprospecting and sampling in the marine environment, with a focus on developing innovative solutions in blue biotechnology, in line with the Nagoya Protocol.
HAL also contributes to the monitoring and management of marine ecosystems and offers a range of programmes aimed at promoting the training of highly qualified personnel for maritime activities, whilst meeting the needs of the blue economy and responding to trends towards new, more digital and environmentally friendly economic models.
