On 8 and 9 September, CIIMAR had the pleasure of hosting a visit from its External Advisory Committee. During the visit, Françoise Médale (INRAE, France), William Gerwick (Scripps Institute of Oceanography – USA) and Mike Elliott (University of Hull, UK) had the opportunity to engage with a wide range of CIIMAR members, including researchers, students, administrative staff, and the Board of Directors, fostering meaningful discussions and the exchange of ideas and suggestions for improvement.
The External Advisory Committee plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and impact of CIIMAR’s activities. It is tasked with providing critical input for the scientific and technical evaluation of the Board’s activity plans and reports, as well as offering guidance on strategic issues related to science, technology, and education. The Committee issues key recommendations that contribute to the ongoing development and excellence of CIIMAR.
The current External Advisory Committee comprises 4 distinguished international experts: Françoise Médale (INRAE, France), William Gerwick (Scripps Institute of Oceanography – USA) Mike Elliott (University of Hull, UK) and Laura Giuliano (CIESM), all recognized for their scientific and technical merit. Members are appointed for a four-year term upon the proposal of the Board of Directors.
