Café com Ciência with Isabel Sousa Pinto| Online
The lecture will explore the Nature Restoration Law, the first comprehensive legislation at European level aimed at restoring degraded ecosystems. Far from being merely a conservation measure, this law is presented as a strategic driver for sustainability, demonstrating that biodiversity recovery is essential for long-term climate resilience and the economy. The participation of Dr. Isabel Sousa Pinto will reflect the experience of someone working on the “front line” of international environmental negotiations.
Isabel Sousa Pinto is Principal Investigator at CIIMAR and Full Professor at FCUP. She has been studying algae for over 30 years and holds a PhD in marine biology from the University of California. She currently co-leads an international ocean observation organization. She was elected to the panel that oversees all scientific work for the United Nations Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. In 2022, she won the Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity.
