CIIMAR’s Oceanus Seminar with Alex Wan | Boca da Baleia
Dr. Alex Wan, from the University of Galway, will present an overview of how the institution and the West of Ireland are leveraging the Atlantic Ocean’s vast resources to advance sustainable aquaculture and marine innovation. His talk will highlight key research initiatives focused on marine biotechnology, environmentally responsible aquaculture practices, and interdisciplinary collaborations that support economic and ecological resilience. Emphasizing innovation and regional impact, Dr. Wan will showcase the role of the University of Galway as a hub for cutting-edge marine science and a driver of sustainable blue growth in the Atlantic region.
Dr Alex Wan holds a PhD in Marine Sciences from the University of Galway in 2017. He currently leads the Aquaculture and Nutrition Research Unit (ANRU), based at both the Ryan Institute’s Carna Research Station in Connemara and the University’s main campus. His expertise spans analytical food chemistry, biochemistry, haematology, fish nutrition, lobster aquaculture, feed development, and marine innovation.
