CIIMAR’s Nautilus Seminar with Lúcia Vicente | Boca da Baleia, CIIMAR
Structural sexism is not merely a clear injustice. It is embedded in our everyday lives and affects both personal and professional choices. This seminar invites reflection on these issues. How do imposed gender norms influence our decisions? Do we recognize this “silent” influence in our lives?
We will discuss how structural sexism affects careers, relationships, and mental health. The main goal is to turn awareness into action by offering tools to deconstruct these patterns and support more authentic and equitable decision-making.
Lúcia Vicente, born in Faro (1979), is a voice that challenges the silence of History. A historian, writer-poet, and feminist activist, she sows equality and diversity through education and literary work. With pen-as-weapon in hand, she uses words as a manifesto—from Portuguesas with a capital “P” to the poetry collection História das Sombras do Monte. The award-winning No Meu Bairro broke new ground by embracing neutral and inclusive language. Today, as a linguistic and cultural mediator, her mission continues to resonate: “Death to the patriarchy, death! Bang!”
