Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics merges biology and computer science to assist the acquisition, storage, analysis, and dissemination of biological data, including often the analysis of sequences of biological molecules, such as DNA, RNA and protein sequences.

Comparing genomes (assembly, annotation, phasing, syntheny, structural variation, etc), genes, proteins and other sequences within an organism or between organisms, allows retracing their evolutionary relationships, assess the function of DNA, RNA, protein (including predicting the three-dimensional structures of proteins), etc.
The unprecedented wealth of biological data that arise with the human genome project and the subsequent sequencing projects in diversified organisms, from microorganisms to higher vertebrates, demanded the analysis and interpretation of huge datasets that are being managed by the evolving science of bioinformatics. Such interdisciplinary field, connects biology, computer science, mathematics and physics, with the application of various computation and analysis tools to properly interpret biological data.
Bioinformatics enables current management of omics big datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, metagenomics, metabarcoding, eDNA, etc) in modern biology and medicine, allowing deciphering biological data and additionally understand the role of molecular changes influencing live diversification and evolution, environmental health, disease progression, with potential clinical applications of such inferences in individualized therapy (precision medicine), drug discovery and biotechnological and industrial development.
CIIMAR provides tailor-made bioinformatic data analysis services to assist the interpretation of data generated by sequencing, genotyping, and other related molecular experiments. We use cutting-edge and customized bioinformatics algorithms and pipelines, providing high-quality end assessment and interpretation of omics results (e.g. genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, metagenomics, metabarcoding, environmental genomics, etc) over the development and implementation of academic and industrial bio-projects.
